OSI Industries was founded in 1909 in Chicago, Illinois. They opened as a family meat market run by a German immigrant dedicated to customer success. Shortly after, OSI Industries became a primary meat supplier for the region, including the McDonald’s restaurant chain. Since then, they became one of McDonald’s primary global suppliers. OSI prides themselves in delivering leading-edge food solutions that produce quality and value. The current President of OSI is David McDonald, who has been with OSI for three decades. David McDonald grew up on a farm in Iowa and attended Iowa State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. He started at OSI Industries as a project manager and intern to Sheldon Lavin as his first job out of college. Sheldon Lavin is OSI’s current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
OSI Industries has expanded globally and has operations around the world. They currently employ 20,000 people in more than 65 facilities in 17 different countries. OSI Industries is estimated to have a net worth of $6.1 billion, making rank 58 on the Forbes list of the largest private U.S. companies. OSI has also been recognized for their environmental efforts. They were awarded the Globe of Honour Award three times in the past five years by the British Safety Council. The North American Meat Institute granted environmental awards to several OSI plants in 2018. Also, in 2017 Nicole Johnson-Hoffman was named the Chief Sustainability Officer to OSI. They have recently acquired Baho Foods and Creative Foods Europe. President David McDonald played a key role in these acquisitions and OSI’s successful expansion due to his knowledge in food production logistics and experience working with international governmental agencies, suppliers and retailers. David McDonald has no plans of slowing OSI’s growth as they most recently merged with Turi Foods in 2018 to create Turosi Pty Ltd.
