After graduating from the Federal University of Parana with an Economics degree, Cornelsen got a job as an investment banker at a local investment bank. He went on to work for other leading investment corporations in Brazil between 1974 and 1995 such as Unibanco, Multibanco,Libra Bank PLC, and Standard Chartered Merchant Bank. He served in various capacities including Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors. He quit employment in 1995 to establish his own investment firm.
